Great buy! Review by RC

This review is for a bag that has just been retired after 6 years of everyday use as a laptop/work/school bag.

I bought it for use as a laptop bag while working in Afghanistan. So initially it endured 12 months, 6-7 days a week, of carrying a 17inch laptop and whatever other items I needed for that day. Many times it was packed to the brim because I traveled and loaded it with everything I needed to live on for a few days.

Since then it has been used as a laptop bag for work and school. 5 days a week all year long. I work in IT so I carry lots of accessories (like a tool belt) and this bag has the compartments and load capacity to handle everything I have stuffed into it.

It has NEVER had a problem with the zippers, straps, or internal compartments. No issues at all actually. Many times I was concerned that I had loaded it too heavy and that a strap would let go as I picked it up to put it on my back. But the straps are just as strong today as they were when I bought it (just broken in and more comfortable now).

I had to retire it because the bottom started to tear where my 17-inch laptop rests. Additionally, the fabric has two layers and the internal layer (waterproof layer?) was falling apart leaving black pieces on the ground - that fell out of the hole. I think I contributed to the inner layer falling apart by the way that I picked up the bag sometimes. I didn't always use the top handle, I would grab it by the front flap and lift. That is where the black internal pieces started to fall apart. Who knows for sure.

Some people (coworkers mainly) say it is too big, but that's relative. I needed a large bag for my large laptop and my traveling while in a combat zone. Its size was much appreciated.

I do know that for around $100 this bag is amazing!

My only recommendation would be to put some Molle webbing on the inside of pockets. This is counter-intuitive to many ways of thinking but I would like to organize molle compatible items on the INSIDE of my bag. I don't want to display my multi-tool, flashlight, etc on the outside of my bag as I carry in an office/school environment. I haven't seen a single bag with this feature, so maybe there's a good reason not to have it.

I have had this bag for a few years now, and i honestly don't have complaints about it. It's just a great bag with tons of room, and if you know how to pack you should never have a problem with space. Never had a zipper stop working, never had loop rip, or a clip break. Durable if you aren't looking to kick it down a mountain, but tools and every day use is okay. GREAT BAG. (Posted on 3/16/2017)

Cheap Knock-Off of Spec-Ops Brand T.H.E. Pack Review by John

I've owned several SOC packs over the years and they've all failed within a couple years of use, this one is no different. The zippers blowout, the sides rip easy due to 600D vs 1000D nylon construction and the shoulder harness is mere decoration because when loaded down the harness doesn't spread the weight out, it just rolls up and digs into your shoulders.

The price may be cheaper than Spec-Ops Brand but when it wears out in a couple years due to "normal wear and tear" or piss poor construction it's not a bargain at any price when you have to buy another one every couple years; at least with Spec-Ops Brand packs they last for several years of intense rugged use and abuse with little if any structural damage and they do stand behind their lifetime warrantee because their products are that good and made in Houston, Texas U.S.A. and not some third world country sweatshop for pennies on the dollar. I bought mine in 2000 in the PX in Kosovo. This pack has been all over the world with me in the 16 years that I have owned it. The expandable main compartment is great to have in case you acquire a little more stuff on your journey. I use my backpack as a carry-on for business trips. It fits in most overhead bins. The only issue that I have had is that one of the buckles for the compression straps broke when I was trying to get it super tight. I would say that it mas me putting too much stress on the buckle rather than the product or workmanship. I would definitely recommend getting one of these packs. (Posted on 10/16/2016)
Perfect Travel Bag Review by Jules748

Most useful present I ever received. I'm ex-British Military, so was naturally attracted to such an item but have never used the Bugout Bag operationally.

I regularly travel worldwide and this is the perfect size for anything I need to pack. If I check it in as hold luggage, it is offloaded quickly, due to its size and shape. I am speedy through the airport and never stopped at customs. I don't find it too heavy, even when full (and am now a middle-aged, slightly lardy bird!)

Love that it expands to fit anything I might buy whilst away, only complaint is that the straps must be too tasty as my dozy dog has chewed through one, leaving me lopsided! (Posted on 9/17/2016)
Soldier-Tested, Female-Approved! Review by KayJay

I ride a motorcycle and needed a durable backpack to use once a month to transport my military laptop back and forth to my Army Reserve unit. Months later, I got deployed, was issued an assault bag, and found it wasn't compartmentalized to tote my computer AND all my girlie stuff! So, I packed up my Bugout backpack, laptop and all, and carried it around all over Iraq, from one mission to another, for a whole year. No matter how much stuff I packed inside it, there was always room for just one more thing! When I re-deployed, I'd planned on getting a new backpack, since I knew what my old one had been through. Nine years later, and numerous motorcycle road trips from Detroit to Fort Wayne, IN, Fort Knox, KY, Myrtle Beach, SC, Fort Jackson, SC, Fort Jackson, SC, Fort Benning, GA, Fort Eustis, VA, and D.C., this backpack is still holding its own! Coach and Michael Kors have nothing on Bugout! (Posted on 9/5/2016)

Needs more small pockets. Hate to dig thru bunches of equip to find what I'm looking for. Chest strap has plastic connector that is hard to find in low-light conditions and push together quickly. I always leave the shoulder straps out so not sure about the zippered compartment for them. I always waste time grabbing that zipper first, then realize I have the wrong compartment.
